TOPIC: "Implementation of the IP Azores Natura: A Success Story"

DESCRIPTION: Throughout her career, Diana Pereira has worked in environmental fields with a focus on nature conservation, with the last 7 years dedicated to the technical and financial management of projects co-financed by the European Commission. She is currently the project manager of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project. Let her tell you their success story!

Institute of Volcanology and Risk Assessment Research at the University of the Azores

WHEN: Wednesday 4 September, 10:30 - 12:30

TOPIC: "Living in areas of active volcanism - the challenges of monitoring"

DESCRIPTION: Associate Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of the Azores, Fátima Viveiros carries out research at the Institute for Research in Volcanology and Risk Assessment (IVAR), where she is coordinator of the Gas Geochemistry Scientific Unit. In her session, she will unravel the challenges of her daily job, and how it applies to environmentalism.

WHEN: Thursday 5 September, 10:00

TOPIC: "Blue Azores - Marine Protected Areas in the Azores, from the designation to the implementation”

DESCRIPTION:  Driven by a desire to reconcile the scientific community and the authorities responsible for decision-making, Adriano Quintela has participated in a variety of projects focusing on the linkages between natural, physical, and human systems in coastal and marine environments. With a degree in Biology and a PhD in Geography, he has focused his scientific research on Marine Spatial Planning.​ In this session, you will discover the work of Blue Azores, an international program protecting, promoting and valuing the rich marine resources of the Azores archipelago.

What is included in the fee?

  • Accommodation: 5 nights in a youth hostel in Ponta Delgada, Azores

  • Meals:

    • 5 Breakfast: all days

    • 2 Lunches: on the 2, 3 September

    • 3 Dinners: on the 2, 3 and 5 September

  • Transport from the hostel to the venue

  • Workshops and trainings from EucA

  • Island tour 1 day with a private guide

  • Certificate of completion by EucA

What is NOT included? 

  • Flight from/to Azores

  • Travel from/to airport to hostel

  • Rest of the meals

  • Snacks and other expenses

  • Extra activities

How to register:

Follow these steps:

  • Fill out the registration form. Please be aware that we do a selection on a rolling basis - first come, first served. The sooner you apply, the sooner you’ll get confirmation and can book cheaper flights.

  • Once registered, you will receive confirmation from EucA with payment information and details for further steps.

  • You have seven days to pay and confirm your spot in our Summer School. We will request a 500 euro payment to secure your attendance, with the fee balance due by 1 July.

Confirmation policy:

  • Pay 500 euros to book your spot once EucA confirms you.

  • Pay the rest (490 euros for Early Birds) by 1 July 2024.

Cancellation policy:

  • From 16 April to 1 August: 250 euro will be refundable.

  • From 2 August to 1 September – Not eligible for a refund.
